What is The Movement Collective Newcastle?

The Movement Collective has been teaching Movement in Newcastle for over 10 years !

Focusing on a different approach than regular gyms

TMC is focused on mobility, strength and skills, bending the rules of known fitness and exercise that you have been shown.

We blend different disciplines like gymnastics, strength and conditioning, martial arts, circus into a an easy to follow and fun program. That will get you strong, flexible and skilful.

The variety will give you endless motivation to keep showing up for yourself.

The over 50's classes were added in 2025 to give an option for people that don't want to do the high level skills like handstands and acrobatics

The Classes have been designed to focus on building grip strength, full body coordination, rhythm, the ability to get up and down from the floor and mobile to keep your joints free and strong.

Our classes are beginner friendly (no experience needed)

All movements are scalable with many levels to suit you, meeting your body where it is currently at.

What our members are saying

"the classes are great"

The Movement Collective is a very unique gym. I started their Over 50s class and was a bit concerned at how I would cope, but having done several classes, am very happy with the results.

I can feel the difference in my body and energy levels. The class is great because it's not too intensive and you work on a different part of your body each time you go. Highly recommended. Andrew Mercado

"I truly loved every minute of it "

I rocked up for my first ever over 50s movement class last week and had the best class ever! I was nervous in the lead up (I’m well over 50!) - what if I couldn’t do anything? But there was no need to worry - some things I could do, some I couldn’t. Dan, our lovely coach, kept a close eye and if we struggled, he jumped in with advice on how to make the movement easier, how best to work toward achieving it. The class was full of new challenges and a lot of fun! Everyone was really encouraging and I truly loved every minute of it! I now can’t wait to get back for the next class! Maria Herke

"Really enjoying the classes"

I've just started classes at TMC and it's been the best thing I've done to get back into movement again.

Shout out to Dan for his awesome sessions for over 50s. I'm learning, challenging myself and really enjoying the sessions.

"Pushes you to move"

A different approach to fitness.

If you’re bored with a typical gym, check this out… More acrobatic and calisthenic oriented movement, that changes on a frequent basis, and really pushes you to move a whole bunch of muscles you might’ve forgotten about. (Especially if you’re a little older! ☺️)

Lovely people, both instructors and people doing the class… A really nice community vibe.

BENEFITS OF MOVEMENT

1. Movement Can Extend Life

Regular physical activity after age 50 is linked with a reduced risk of premature death by up to 30%, according to the World Health Organization and major health studies.Even moderate movement, like walking or light stretching, contributes to increased lifespan and better quality of life.

2. Muscle Loss Begins Around Age 30

We naturally lose 3–8% of muscle mass per decade after age 30 (called sarcopenia), and this rate accelerates after 60 — unless we stay active.Movement classes that include strength, balance, and flexibility can slow or reverse this decline.

3. Movement Boosts Brain Health

Regular exercise reduces the risk of cognitive decline, dementia, and Alzheimer’s.Just 30 minutes of moderate movement five times a week improves memory, focus, and mood.

4. Balance & Coordination Are Lifesavers

Falls are the leading cause of injury in people over 65 — but balance-focused movement (like in tai chi, yoga, or functional fitness) can cut fall risk by more than 40%.

5. Movement is the #1 Lifestyle Predictor of Healthy Aging

According to the Harvard Health Study, movement outperformed diet, sleep, and even social connection in predicting physical independence later in life.

6. It's Never Too Late to Start

People who began exercising after age 50 still saw significant health benefits, including:Lower blood pressureImproved heart healthIncreased mobilityLess joint pain

7. Mood and Energy Get a Boost

Exercise triggers endorphin release — known as “feel-good” hormones — which help reduce anxiety, depression, and fatigue, all of which are common concerns in later life.

"Life changing"

It’s been well over a year of life changing mobility, flexibility and fun, and I still haven’t given TMC 5 stars? Probably because 5 doesn’t seem enough. If you’re in range of Newcastle, go to a class, often.

"so much laughing "

I've never heard so much laughing at any gym I've been to before. The workouts have lots of fun variations so you never get bored. There are also lots of fun events programmed throughout the year, which keeps things exciting. TMC- your one-stop fitness/strength/fun shop. Accept no substitutes! David Stout

"I feel right at home"

I joined TMC to stay fit over winter and rehab a niggling shoulder injury. TMC is addictive: learning mad skills, building strength and condition my body, and a fun atmosphere with plenty of silliness. It is everything. I never once felt I was too old for movement and I now feel right at home!

TMC can feel scary before you enter because of some of the incredible things the teachers and others can do. .... But I promise it is welcoming, fun, and a great workout.
